In numeracy we have been learning about time. We estimated how long 1 minute was by closing our eyes and standing up when we thought the time was up. We recognised that we could count to 60 or count to 30 twice for a more accurate guess.
These photos show our 1 minute challenges. We used a timer to time what we could do in 1 minute.
Today we have worked with Mr. Woodcock to make our own right-angle checkers, and hunt around the school for as many right angles as we could find. What right angles can you find in your own homes? For our homework this week, we are going to look in our bedrooms to see how many right-angles we can find.
In Science this term, we are looking at the forces that are in action around us. We play on the ‘Adventure’ every week, but we have never really thought before about the forces that we use to move around the equipment. We enjoyed having an extra playtime, shouting out the forces that we were creating, and which parts of our bodies we were using to create them.
We are pushing with our feet as we run around.
Lyla says ‘I am pushing with my hands.’
Lucas and Tyler say that they are pulling with their hands and pushing with their feet. Lucas is also squeezing the rope.
Lexie, Maisie and Amelia are pushing the wheel around. They thought it might be twisting – what do you think?
Harvey, Lyla and Amelia (below) are using their hands to push themselves down the slide.
Owen is pushing with his feet to jump.
Spike is pushing with his hands.
Lyla and Emily are pushing with their feet as they run.
What forces can you see being used here?
Which forces do you think Libby will need to use to climb the ladder?
Fernando thought really carefully about which forces he could show me.
Spike is trying to stretch here – he is stretching his arms, but is he making the bridge stretch too?
What force do you think Harry is using to hold on to the bars?
Well, what a busy start we have had to our new term! We have already been on our first trip to Woodside Falconry Centre, and we had a fantastic time. As you can see from our photographs, we had the chance to get REALLY close to some animals, and we found out lots of information about nocturnal animals in particular. We hope you enjoy looking at the photos of us on our trip – Mrs. Eills even held the snake, but we didn’t get any photos as she had the camera!

Today we visited St. Edith’s Church in Grimoldby. Thank you to all the wonderful parent helpers who came along with us – we couldn’t have done it without you! Also, thank you to Mrs. Baker for organising the visit, and to Reverend Chris for welcoming us into the Church and helping us to find out so much! Can you name some of the different features of the Church that you can see in these photos?
